There's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on my living room but it's very unwelcome! I first noticed it just sitting on the sofa, like I could feel a very low level kind of rumble. Then I noticed that the damn TV is visibly shaking on its stand, so of course I then look over to my hi-fi and can see my cartridge bobbing up and down a tiny amount!! They are doing some building with heavy duty diggers down the road and it looks like the vibrations are travelling quite a distance. Am not too fussed about the TV but I am definitely concerned about the deck. It's a suspended deck with a fair bit of isolation already - not quite sure what I can do with it now. At this rate I will be forced to wait for when they aren't digging to spin the vinyl ...

Yes, probably not a good idea to put a randomly shaking diamond into the grooves at the moment. Some record damage might ensue. It's about time you moved onto digital anyway.

Low frequency vibrations are a killer for vinyl replay. You may have to wait!
Try a bicycle inner tube between two shelves as a quick isolation solution if it goes on.

I'm going to swap out the RDC cones under my granite platform for sorbothane pads and see if they do a better job...

I'm going to swap out the RDC cones under my granite platform for sorbothane pads and see if they do a better job... From my experience with sorbothane pads, both under HiFi equipment and under a washing machine ( ) I'd expect them to provide excellent isolation and quite possibly resolve the problem enough to play, but they do always affect the frequency balance. I've stopped using them under all shelves and components now - but needs must when the Devil farts in your kettle!

Sorbothane will indeed do it, even if the sound quality is slightly killed.
In my turntable support experiments, sorbothane gives the best isolation but slightly inferior sound.
The Chinese sprung feet are next best but are noisy in motion and don't give quite the same isolation.

Well I don't think anything is going to deal with the vibrations from the building site. With the Sorbothane in place my platter and tonearm were bopping around like they were having a good night out at a techno rave.

The frequency of the vibrations is too low for them to absorb, given the weight.

Today was ridiculous so have put the transport bolts on the deck for a while!
I'm sure it is grateful for the relief...

Playing Heavy Rock doesn't help?
