Whilst changing the plug on my A07 I noticed it's a twin with no earth but there's an earth post on the amp itself. What do I do? I take it I earth it off from the binding post - but to what? The only bit metal near where the amp is is a hinge on a door - will that do it?

That's for the tonearm lead from a turntable Chris. If nothing is humming and you don't own a turntable, then you can just forget about it.

Another way of describing that binding post is that it is a signal earth, to reduce/remove hum from other fully earthed devices. Very low voltages
You amp is fully insulated mainswise and does not need to protect you and the world from nasty mains voltage threats so has no need for a mains earth.
Confused? I like a simple life too

Turns out - with careful listening - there is a bit of a hum. Just the usual amp hum through the speakers that gets slightly louder with volume. Think running an earth might shut this up?

You have turntable mister? What are your sources?
I am told some amps do hum a teeny bit. What is yours? Just to feed your paranoia mine is a naff AVI SS but is virtually silent.

If the hum gets louder with volume then it's likely an induced hum. Run an earth wire from the amp earth terminal to the turntable/arm earth, or to the CD player chassis.

No turntable but I've run an earth to the CD player.
This is my Acoustic Research 07 amp AlanS - seems a bit better now.
