Bit of a punt on my part, but one I'm glad I took.

This cart tells it like it is, good or bad ... I couldn't agree more. Just sat through some not particularly good recordings, the cart was honest, and they didn't sound particularly good.

Absolutely - I just love the honesty of this cart - for years I had avoided AT carts on the basis that they are all 'bright' and 'forward' in presentation. Well I don't know about the rest of the range but this cart is about as neutral as I can imagine a cart to be.
If I was ever able to spend serious amounts on a cart I would be more than happy to look further up the AT food-chain but in the meantime I will simply enjoy the music.

I am not put off by the price. The AT33 was cheaper.

I think I have just found something to beat them both. Another Japanese product - The Technics EPC-U205 with original boron pipe cantilever and diamond.
It sounds superb.

That Technics cartridge has a great rep.

It's a shame it is "only" a Mk III. Still, I am quite happy with it. I had a good listen to it last night, and there seems to be nothing wrong with it. It just gets on with playing the music in an infectious manner.

Since this last post I have bought a Jico neo SAS stylus for the EPC-205 as I think the suspension on the original stylus may be suffering a bit as I have very little clearance between the cartridge body and the disc. I have to say I am quite impressed with the Technics/Jico combination. It is certainly more HiFi than the Technics stylus, and apart from adding a bit more treble, it seems to lose none of the character.

I have also sold the Hana SL, as I simply was not using it, but I also have a Denon DL-103 in an Audio-Techne brass body, fitted with a Shibata tipped boron cantilever. I have not used the AT33 much since I got this.

It seems that Proboards does not like you using two different forums with different user names.

What cartridge is it, David?
From the logo, I'm guessing it's a strain gauge or similar?
