Nice site. I suppose if they price it at say £5000 I might be in with a chance of getting one!

"Twin-Rotor Surface-Facing Direct Drive Motor"
Now, why would you go to the effort of designing that unless you had something other than a limited run in mind?

This might turn out to be a Hanpin clone, it's certainly no SL1210 as we know it !

Very interesting. I was never very keen on the 1200 colour scheme, but in any case "limited edition" does suggest that it will be prohibitively (for me) expensive. I will be keen to see what's under the hood though.

So this this the deck you been on about,
Could gave told you about this mid point last year when a dedicated team of technics/panasonic engineers were flown to the UK to under take some study and research with a certain UK magazine editor
Sorry I thought you guys said it was going to be good not just a trip down nostalgia lane my mistake
Seriously this has been in the wings for a quite a while and I suspect technics were just waiting for the approval nod from certain sources throughout the globe to confirm that thenvinyl revival has arrived in earnest

If the design isn't broke then don't change it!
Seriously, if the motor/bearing has been redesigned and everything else left much the same then it's going to be at the very least a good deck. Who knows what other changes may lurk underneath?

"Twin-Rotor Surface-Facing Direct Drive Motor" Now, why would you go to the effort of designing that unless you had something other than a limited run in mind? Rereading the press release it seems the 1200GAE (limited to 1200 units) will be followed at the end of the year, and in greater numbers, by the 1200G. I can't see any info on the differences between these two models though.

There's also the other Panasonic announcement, a high end motor unit deck, which may come into the Technics brand, too.

I think the limited edition model has tonearm material differences mainly and if successful, I suspect this will filter in to the main unit.
Chaps, I remain hugely fond of the mid 70's SL150 and it's arm-fitted family. No quartz locking, but no servo hunting either. Take the lid off when playing, add a cork mat (no profit in this for dealers though as cork mats are a tenner) and fit a modern headshell, adjust the arm bearings if they're sloppy (they were on this generation for some reason) and clean switched and pots and you have a fantastic vintage vinyl player of great musical integrity and tonal accuracy - imo of course...

No quartz locking, but no servo hunting either. The SL-1200 Mk.II series onwards, that many of us own, use servo feedback locking to a quartz reference and there is no hunting at all. Very precise speed control is one of the key attributes of this deck.

It will sell out quite quickly its around £2700 so whatshitefi have said anyway.
Who dare mod a £2700 Techy?
It does look nice though I have to say.
MODERATION: Baggage removed.

Yup, don't think I'll be buying and/or modifying one.

As expected we will provide a whole series of modifications. But I doubt it's any better, if as good, as the old SL-1200.

I thought most DJs were going digital now? (LOL)

I don't think this is really aimed at DJs, though they do tend to be keen 1200/1210 fetishists, so I expect many will want a pair in any case.
