Just a few words of caution regarding UPS and their recent change of delivery policy.
they now only make ONE delivery attempt. If they miss you, they take the item to your nearest "Access point" and you have to collect. If you don't collect after 10 days, back it goes to the seller.
firstly, I resent having to collect something when I've paid for door to door delivery. Secondly my nearest access point is a 2 bus journey there, and a taxi home if it's heavy.
I made such a journey tonight to collect a parcel that they failed to deliver as specified on 23 Dec and instead tried to deliver without warning on Xmas eve. When I arrived at the access point, the machine was broken and the shopkeeper didn't know when it would be fixed. He refused to let me collect the parcel because he couldn't scan it out and get a signature. That meant it would have to be returned to the seller!
Four buses and 90 minuets later, I got home and lambasted an initially rather rude UPS employee, demanding that they redeliver on a date of my choosing.
If if anyone is selling on EBay and using UPS, I can see a big risk of negative feedback. Buyers paying for UPS will not appreciate a CollectPlus type of service. UPS also have fewer collection points so you may have quite a hike. As a buyer, I will be messaging any sellers and insisting that they use another courier. It's such a pity because UPS were one of the better couriers.

Sad to hear that tale as UPS are by far top of my tree as far as parcel firms go.
Must admit the service I have received so far has been exemplary.
According to their 2016 terms and conditions they try to deliver up to 3 times, except for UPS Worldwide Express Freight.

www.upscontentcentre.com/html/uk I was shocked too because I also rated their service. They have confirmed to me twice that their new policy is one aftempt only, then off to the access point we go. I'll see if I can put something in writing up here.

I also have UPS access points locally, and must admit to using them for sending stuff, as it's a bit cheaper and also more convenient if I'm not in all day.
I'm told some people who are not at home daytime find them most useful.

I think they are a great option.......as long as they remain just that. Convenient drop off is one thing, but forcing unsuspecting recipients to collect is just plain out of order. Once it's at the Access point, they don't give you the option to have a redelivery. As I said, it's a CollectPlus type of service with a UPS price. I can see lots of people being unhappy and taking it out on Ebay sellers when they have to spend time and money Collecting things they have already paid to have delivered.
UPS have obviously taken a calculated risk that it will save them more money than it will cost them via loss of some customers. I've now boycotted them altogether but sometimes you can't guarantee things from EBay won't come via UPS unless you message every seller who offers an unspecified courier service.

I like UPS and I guess they work well for me because I have everything delivered at work, where there is always someone to sign for it.
That's a shame if they see that revised residential service as an 'enhancement'.

I have used UPS via parcels2go and they damaged my Albarry PP1 amplifier - I paid an enhanced premium for insurance too, got diddly squat back so won't use them again. The box was crushed on arrival, and the front perspex faceplate was cracked. Contacted Paul Burnett (very helpful) and he said it couldn't be replaced as he had no spares. I reckon if you use the cheaper third party sellers that use them, like Parcels2Go, you get a cheap service. I you go direct to UPS and pay their premium price, I reckon you stand a better chance. My 2 cents

The last three things I've sent/received via UPS have been damaged. It wasn't always like that. Two of those were direct UPS Premium bookings as well. Both of the things dropped off after one failed delivery were direct UPS bookings too. I'm stil waiting to see if Monday's redelivery arrives damaged.
I used Interparcel to book UPS for years and they were very reliable but then Interparcel always pay out if you claim. Parcel2go will fight to their last breath before paying so you may have something there.
At least I can still ship overseas because I always use FedEx who are excellent and very quick IME.

DPD remains by far my preferred courier. They have an excellent tracking system, and have always delivered at the stated time or advised of any delays.

UPS not that good. Deliveries to us were often bashed very hard and we made many complaints to Xerox supplies who used them.
We found TNT to be the least worst of the overnight lot and used them for years. After a chain of service failures by TNT we were really lucky to have our overseas courier take on our UK overnight work and use 3rd party for delivery - but they keep an eye on it to destination.
I believed DPD were rated top in the Which report.

Interesting
We use UPS for all of our more larger expensive pieces never had an issue with them at all
Though that is using UPS direct not via a third party like Parcels to Go or Inter-parcel which prove to be frustration at best if you have an issue as they have to contact UPS so bear this in mind you get what you pay for.
For all other delivers Interlink / DPD extremely reliable plus the 1 hour delivery window we send out around 120 individual parcels a week.
Just remember you get what you pay for.

It's such a pity because UPS were one of the better couriers. So its not just me who has been greatly inconvenienced by UPS: On Thursday 17th November I placed and order with RA Accessories, speaking to the MD John Armer, for record inner sleaves; order was over £100.00p. John, who is a likeable fellow said I would receive my order on Saturday 19th November delivery by UPS; waited around all day... no delivery. To cut a lengthy story short, yesterday I got in touch with RA accs, yet again, only to be told that my order had been delivered to a drop of point, a grotty Premier corner shop situated on a busy main road with parking as a problem, added to a clueless, hard to understand shop keeper. Finally, got what I ordered and paid for immediately on placing my order. Emailed RA with the info that there was no notice of missed delivery, which is hard to accept as being retired either myself or my wife and a dog who alert barks at anyone who comes to the door, were available to accept delivery. The UPS driver did not leave notice of a missed delivery and obviously could not be bothered to full fill the transaction of signed for door to door delivery which I paid for. An added New resolution of mine is not to accept below par and shonky service that I have paid good money for, complain loudly and ask for compo!

We're very lucky here, as our regular UPS driver is a great bloke and knows to ring the bell as well as knock the knocker - ooh missus...
Interparcel seem very good agents. Just thought I'd mention it.

I think the reputation of any courier stands and falls with the standard of delivery drivers.
In my area Parcelforce and UPS are the real deal, the rest are monkeys working for peanuts.

Love Jazzbones description of the grotty shop and the clueless, hard to understand shopkeeper. Sounds like exactly the same place! UPS can really pick them. Up until this latest policy decision, I was a happy customer. I hope they think again, but I doubt it.

I would say if you are regular courier user getting to know your driver helps immensely fortunate enough to had the same driver for six years, other shippers drivers come and go.
Parcel Farce here are beyond a joke, in fact just been to my nearest depot for collection of a delivery they missed yesterday and did not leave at the local PO the depot is in Reading some 30 miles away.
The other issue is insurance should anything go wrong. We have a separate policy which is attached to our business insurance which allows items upto £250K to be shipped pretty much anywhere on the globe.
If I used any of the agents insurance it would actually cost me around another £15K+ per year.
AS I said you get what you pay for.

In general getting what you pay for can be true but in general and specifically on overnight and couriers.... There are many companies that massively overcharge and are rubbish. There are great companies who charge not a lot and give stupendous service.
