I think there are going to be quite a few products for sale in the future with a Pi at their heart if not already. This looks like quite a neat implementation, availble with or without a built in hard drive for a very good price. The Slice fiveninjas.com/#about

I like the case but those lights would drive me demented. Presumably they can be disabled.

The lights can be disabled and in any case, they are not flashing all the time, just when a function is being changed. I've not had it that long and I'm still to try it with music. My basic RPi has rather taken on the music duties. I have 11 films on the Slice (mine is fitted with a 2Tb hard drive) and picture quality and sound is very good. Also, it seems to be simple and very user friendly.

No need to apologise. I'd forgotten about it too. Interesting to read that thread again. I started it last Christmas with the expectation of receiving my Slice within a few weeks. As is typical with Kickstarter projects, my Slice finally arrived just last month! Enjoying the films saved on it at present. I'm going to try downloading my ripped CD library in due course. Plan for 2016 is to replace my PC with one of those very clever small box computers (sorry, can't remember what they are called) that draw very low current so can be left on all the time and then hook in a NAS drive and my RPi music server and the Slice. Thankfully I have a computer guru friend who helps me with all this stuff, but he is taking his annual winter retreat in Spain at present so I will have to wait a couple of months before it all gets set up.
Anyway, back to the real world........off to Royal Wooton Bassett in the morning for the British Vinyage Radio Society auction and audio jumble. I might find a few things to buy that I actually understand!

It looks like Bryston are going with the Pi and Hifiberry Digi+ in a new digital player called a BDP Pi. It adds remote control and a power supply along with a built in screen. Presumably there will be bespoke Bryston software.

I don't think the price has been announced yet.

As it's going to cost "less than half the price of the flagship BDP-2" I'm guessing it'll be around the £1500.00 mark.

Be interested to see internal Bryston documents on how the price is made up
