Alt-J - RELAXER
This album, like all Alt-J, is a real grower. Really enjoying the CD.

Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real - S/T2017 I'm calling it now as nowt's going to beat it, my album of the year 2017 I got to see Lukas on Wednesday at The Borderline, live him and his band are beyond exceptional. Nothing fancy, just pure music and talent - drums, bass, lead and slide guitars. ChrisB, he's been Neil Young's backing band for the last couple of years and this is the first time he's played his own music in Europe. The band are phenomenal, tight, slick and extremely talented. Not been to a show like it in decades. They are really rocky live too.

I got one Wednesday It's getting good reviews in the music press, but might be a stretch for the taste's here. ChrisB and Stratmangler may like it, others, not so sure? I can't stop playing it

What's the sound quality like on the vinyl Tim? Must say I really like his voice & guitar playing .. I'll let you know when I buy a turntable, shouldn't be long now His voice is quite unique, shades of Willie and he can hold a note perfectly for ages, he really won the Borderline over, they went crazy for him, as did I. His guitar playing is superb, he had no fancy pedals, didn't use a capo all night and that single pickup 1956 Gibson sounded outstanding. The simplicity and mastery of his craft bears testament to the statement 'less is more' - no tricks, no electronic gizmos, just pure honest talent. I've not been so impressed by a live performance in as long as I can remember, which is saying something as I go to 60+ gigs a year. The album is equally as good IMO. Great YouTube find too, captures the band and him well, he certainly won't be playing venue's like the Borderline for long, so I consider myself very lucky to have been there. I can still count gigs like that on one hand and I've been going to live shows for over 40 years

Hi Tim , Yes, I've played it quite a few times recently, but not mentioned it here for some reason. Within seconds of hearing the first track for the first time, I knew I was going to like the whole album. On subsequent plays, it occurred to me that his voice is a little like Zach Williams from The Lone Bellow - and particularly so on the first few lines of that first track. I also thought it was great that the first POTR album has a cover of my newly discovered and now favourite Hendrix track, Pali Gap:
