I used WD Greens in mine. It's on a shelf in the storage room under the stairs so noise isn't a problem for me. :-)

OK, great thanks. I most probably will go for the cheaper option, but with 3TB drives.

Remember, if you buy a NAS with a capacity of 2 x 2TB, if you're smart your total capacity will be 2TB since you would setup the drives as a mirror (RAID 1). That way, you have redundancy and complete data preservation should one drive fail. Setting it up as RAID 0 to give 4TB will offer you no protection at all. One drive fails, the whole lot is unusable.

Yep, I know. Well I know the principle - I thought a raid was something done by hordes of swarming heathens.

...which means RAID 0 is actually an AID!

Anyone in IT setting up a RAID 0 for a corporate application should be taken outside and slapped with an 8" floppy disk.

That kind of behaviour would qualify as what I have fondly come to know as "IT with a silent SH".

I've just hit the button on a Buffalo 2 x 3TB drive from Dabs - £170 inc. postage. It was the same price as from Amazon but with much quicker delivery.

The drive arrived this morning and I'm surprised at the weight of it, which together with its smallish size makes for a dense little black box. The casework is plastic but solid and not at all flimsy. I don't know if it would meet your standards Andre (I don't have doubts....I just don't know) but it's fine for me.
Now to get it set up.

In that case, this one is absolutely the very best one possible for the job and getting the next model up would have been a complete waste of money!
