If you want to be confused about "quality", try reading "Zen, and the art of motorcycle maintenance".
It's a classic that, up till now, has escaped me, but I'm 2/3 of the way through it at the moment.

Well, you COULD say that, but you'd be wrong and look an idiot Don't have a 3020, I should say. But do have a 3030 - two, actually, with one in bits. When restored, it will be a "giant killer!". The equal of anything costing up to a £1000 (in my mind). And it's got meters, Martin. It's got meters… (Exists with a smug sense of self-satisfaction…))

They'll look great beside the Sponge Bob Square Pants sticker on the Belles.

PR@T
I hate that term with a vengeance. Colloms started to lose it when he began bandying that term around I felt and now he's a bit of a laughing stock amongst us oldies..

Th one that gets me annoyed is 'game changer'. That has no application in hi-fi but maybe football. I remember a certain cable that was promoted as such. Improvements in audio are incremental and generally subtle.

PRaT - Pace, Rhythm & Timing. An acronym beloved of a certain subset of Linn/Naim-style believers to make you forget that their products exhibit a lot of tonal aberrations...
Martin Colloms is a hi-fi writer for the rags.

Translucency used as a positive ie "the midrange was beautifully translucent" In my dictionary translucency means that a translucent medium allows light through, but you cannot make out what is on the other side. Frosted glass is translucent; you wouldn't want that as a car windscreen.
I wouldn't want a system with translucent midrange, so why do reviewers portray it as a virtue.
Idiots!

Improvements in audio are incremental and generally subtle. I missed this the first time around. 'Game changer' is almost as bad as 'night and day'. I really dislike exaggeration in describing what are usually incremental changes in SQ. The few times I have heard a really major upgrade I am pretty loath to say so, although I will say it anyway. I think it just loses the reader. After all, it's all subjective, isn't it? Not only do we struggle for expressions that impart what we hear, no two people hear the same things anyway!

Translucency used as a positive ie "the midrange was beautifully translucent" They probably meant transparent but wanted another cool way of describing it. Idiots!

Translucency implies 'warm and vaguely focussed' to me. I bet reviewers using the term don't mean that at all, but there are some folks who like that in a hifi!
