That's different! I'm not really keen on the token valve in a circuit, I can never really see the point. Either they cannot be bothered to design a proper transistor buffer stage or they want to introduce valve warmth (yuk). It's just satisfying market demand, I know.

I'm tempted. If the tube design is done well it can bring texture and body to the sound without being syrupy or warm ...

Nice find. I do laugh at 'Class A Stereo Preamplifier' marked on the front panel, though. Has anyone come across a Class B preamp? Or a Class D one?

Agree with Jules a Fantastic amplifier It very clean sounding with lots of depth. It will take on many amplifiers costing a lot more money. Best amplifier I had and I had a few over the years I prefer this over the expensive Sansui Amplifiers that go for so much more and they are quite good. I liked mine so much I just bought another.

Bet the meters hardly move in normal use. If they are like the Luxman I have, they are log meters with a 60dB range. So always show moment and really quite useful.

I was remembering big Japanese VU meters of old, like the Hitachi ones. They weren't very log or very responsive and you had to crank the output considerably to see them do anything. Largely useless, I'd say.

Largely useless, I'd say. Well, I also have a Technics SH-920 that has a 60dB dynamic range with average, peak and also peak-hold. The Luxman 60dB but at a push 70dB with less accuracy.
The Tulip we are talking about here, has a 40+dB range. VU meters of old were usual just 20dB as you say.
