There are some simple things that you can do in order to ensure that your listing is as effective as possible.
It seems so obvious that your sale will go better if you can provide the reader with as much information as possible about the item you're are selling, yet five minutes scanning an auction site will reveal countless listings with useless or misleading descriptions and poor attempts at providing images. Think about all of the super cheap bargains you hear about that are as a result of a poor advert - if you want to sell your stuff then a little effort goes a long way.
Don't assume that people will know what it is that you are selling just from the model name or number - be absolutely crystal clear. So say what kind of component it is as well as the make and model. For example - if you're trying to offer a Sony STR-232L, how many people will know that this is a tuner/amp? Not many! So a thread title along the lines of For Sale: Sony STR-232L receiver will help pull in your potential buyers far better.
Make sure that the spelling in at least the title of the thread is correct - this will help with searches.
In the text of your thread, again, it pays to provide as much information as possible and that should ideally be right there in the thread and not just via a link. Don't be afraid of stating what you think is the obvious - it will almost certainly not be obvious to all of your potential buyers. Keep the buyers' attention for as long as possible - the next competing item is only a couple of clicks away for them.
Links are great to help add to the picture that you are painting - don't expect someone else's website to do all the work for you! You need to catch the imagination of your buyers - if you can do that, then a successful sale is much more likely.
Give a full description of the features.
Provide a description of the sound quality of the unit.
If you can, provide short quotes from reviews of the unit - preferably from people whose opinions are reasonably well respected.
Give an honest description of the physical condition of your goods.
Note any modifications that have been made to it.
Probably the most vital factor in getting your things sold as quickly and efficiently as possible is that you provide good and appropriately sized photographs taken from every angle of the actual unit that you are selling. People want to see the condition of the goods - they need to know that your description is accurate and that you're not hiding a scratch or dent.
Be realistic about the price that you set.
Bear in mind that invitations for offers will put off a lot of buyers.
Good luck with your sale!
